As you may have seen from my last blog post I joined the Guild of Photographers this year. Well it is now the end of the year and the Image of the Month competitions take a wee break in order for the Guild Judging Panel to choose their ‘Images of the Year’.
Just this week the emails were sent out to all the finalists, those whose images had made it into the top 10 of their respective categories. In order for an image to be considered for the Image of the Year it must have already won a Gold or Silver Award in the Image of the Month competition, that in itself is a remarkable achievement. From that set of images the judges choose their top 10 in each category, so it really is the best of the best that make it to the finals.
I have already way surpassed any expectations I had when I first joined the Guild about what I may achieve in competitions. Prior to joining the Guild I was not a fan of photography competitions, it has even been said by a friend that I was ‘anti-competition’. That said, I have had a good 1st year with the Guild, picking up many awards and even a few Golds. Much to my delight this week I received the news that 3 of my images have made it to the finals, in 3 separate categories. I really am over the moon with this achievement. In 2020 alone the Guild received more than 16,000 entries for the Image of the Month competitions, so to have 3 of my images make it to the finals really is an honour.
In the Urban category my image from the Glasgow Kelvingrove Art Galleries and Museum made it through.
My take on Apple v Windows still life made it through to the finals in the Commercial category.
My 3rd image through to the finals was this one of a glorious stag, which made it to the finals in the Nature & Wildlife category.

The awards ceremony takes place at the start of February 2021 so not long until the ultimate winners are announced. The ceremony will be a virtual affair due to Covid and no doubt restrictions will still be in place. To get to the finals is a massive achievement for me so any thing else will be a ‘Brucey Bonus’.
To be continued… :)
